Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?
I offer face painting (from cheek art to full faces), simple and intermediate balloon twisting (50+ design options), waterproof Glitter Tattoos (100+ options), Airbrush Tattoos, Airbrush Face Painting and Balloon Decor. Although I am not a party planner, I do my best to be as full service as possible. I would be happy to recommend other entertainers in the area, whether you are looking for a magician, henna artist or more face painters.
What kind of paint do you use?
Always ask your entertainer what kind of paint they are using. If it's acrylic or craft paint bought at a craft store or supermarket, it's not safe! Some common brands are: Diamond FX, Wolfe FX, Tag, Snazaroo, Paradise and Kryolan. I use only cosmetic quality face paint and glitters.
What Setup Requirements do you have?
I request that my clients be able to supply a small regular height table at least 4ft X 4ft and 2 chairs. If this is an issue, please let me know. If your event is outdoors, I will need to be set up in a shaded area, shielded from high winds.
How do I book?
Please call, text or email me with your name, event date, time, event location, and expected number of people who will participate. After discussing the details of your event I will email you a quick PDF agreement to fill in and instructions for the deposit. Once I receive your agreement and deposit your booking will be confirmed. You may contact me any time for questions or concerns.
What payment methods do you accept?
I prefer cash, check, QuickPay, Zelle, Venmo or money order. PayPal or credit card are also conditionally accepted. Please ask for details.
What is provided?
I supply all face painting supplies with the exception of a table and chairs. The same goes for balloon twisting, glitter tattoos and airbrush. I bring a board of options for guests to choose from. The complexity of the face painting designs offered may depend on the number of guests at your event compared to the amount of time booked. I can bring 2-3 minute designs or a larger selection of 2-6 minute designs.
How many faces can you paint?
Each face takes approximately 2-5 minutes, depending on the age and selected design. For a typical kids birthday party, generally I can accommodate about 12-18 guests per hour without interruptions. If you do not want guests to wait in line, we can create a list of names and call kids a few at a time, but I will need assistance identifying and bringing the kids when it is their turn. High speed designs are available for high volume events.
Will all guests at the party be painted?
I recommend allowing enough time to ensure all guests can be painted. If additional time is needed, it may be added at the prorated hourly rate, if painter is available to stay.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, Face Painting by Valery is insured by Specialty Insurance. A copy of the current policy is available by request. I can add your venue to be additionally insured. This is only offered for company events and requires one week prior notice.
Is face painting for kids only?
Without instructions otherwise, I paint whoever is next in line. I leave it to the host to inform their guests whether the face painting is open to all ages or just kids. I do not want to risk hurting someone's feelings by telling them that they are "too old" for face painting. Please keep this in mind when budgeting time, because adults and teenagers may surprise you and get in line for face painting.
What is your area of travel?
My preferred service area is within 25 miles of Wheaton, IL, but I do travel outside of it. I may charge a $25-50 travel fee, but will always let you know as soon as I have your event location.
How do I remove the face paint?
The paints can be removed with mild soap and water. Apply a cleanser or baby shampoo and gently wipe the design away with a dark wash cloth. Some colors may leave a light stain, depending on the child’s complexion. If so, apply moisturizer and gently clean again in 30 minutes.
Do you offer costumes?
Although I do not do clowning or games, I do offer several non-licensed costume options you may like to add to your booking. Please inquire for a list of costumes I currently own. I try to do what I can to fit your theme. Without specification I generally wear a colorful dress or outfit. If you have specific face painting ideas for kids, you may let me know as well.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you decide to cancel the event, your $50 deposit acts as a booking fee and is non-refundable. If the cancellation is due to a documented emergency, your $50 deposit may be applied to a future date.
In the event of rain, I would happy to offer waterproof glitter tattoos or balloon twisting as a substitute for face painting if discussed in advance. If you are having a pool party, I would recommend scheduling a face painter after guests are done with swimming or request that I bring a glitter tattoo kit or airbrush tattoos in addition to the face painting kit, so that guests may have a waterproof or water-resistant option.
